Paeonia caucasica is native to the Caucasus, Its preferred habitats are meadows and clearings in the mountain forests, from foothills to subalpine zones. Flowers are large, single, and 8-10 cm in diameter; they are often bright crimson or pink sometimes deep rose colored. Caucasica blooms before the fern leafs, making it very early indeed. It is rarely offered and highly prized by gardeners.
