We often get asked how to get started in rock gardening. Most of what is offered at local nurseries and box stores is completely unsuitable. Below are three collections that make it easy. We will pick a selection of relatively easy plants that are suitable for your area.
All you have to do is mound up some well drained soil, sand, gravel and a bit of organic material or composted manure. Place your rocks leaving spaces between them for plants. Our favorite stone is tufa, but irregular chunks of limestone or granite is also nice. Round fieldstone is ok but harder to work with. Whatever your choice, check out local quarries as it is far cheaper. Add a crushed stone mulch that matches your stone and you are ready for plants.
Once the hardscape is done set the plants where they look pleasing to you. Walk away and come back a bit later, if you still like your layout dig holes and plant them. This is as close to an instant garden as you can get and almost impossible to screw up. - All Rock Garden Collections also receive FREE SHIPPPING!
